Hardware costs cut 50% with virtualisation
20 → 8Servers
−50%Hardware cost
−60%Licence cost
A'ayan Leasing and Investment Company is one of Kuwait's highest-profile investment businesses. Its data centre had grown too complex and costly for an eight-person team to maintain, so INC established a virtualised environment based on Hyper-V (part of Windows Server 2008 R2), migrating physical servers with System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008.
Objectives
- Cut hardware costs and reduce application licence fees
- Simplify server management and maintenance
- Consolidate all applications to one central location
What we did
- Virtualised environment on Hyper-V
- Windows Server 2008 R2 under an Enterprise Agreement
- System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 for migration
Results
- Physical servers reduced from 20 to 8; hardware cost down 50%
- Server configuration in 1 hour instead of 3; restore in 1 hour instead of 8
- Application licence costs lowered by 60%; power & cooling 50% less

“We found Hyper-V to be more flexible and cost-effective than other offerings on the market, including VMware. We've cut costs by more than 50 per cent.”
